American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act of 2009 Information
The
Governor's Office of Energy Policy (Energy Office) received $132 million as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
(ARRA) of 2009 from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Funding will be
administered over a 3-year period.

(Energy Star) Appliance
Rebate Program
In 2009, DOE awarded $6.2 million to implement
Arizona's Appliance Rebate Program. More than 26,000
rebates were distributed to Arizona comsumers generating more than $25.5 million
in total sales for Arizona businesses.
In addition, more than $1.5 million was generated in state tax revenue. The
program closed on December 17, 2010.
Energy Emergency
Preparedness
In 2009, DOE awarded $796,410 to to improve the state's energy emergency preparedness plans and
ensure quick recovery and restoration from any energy supply disruptions.

The
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is an existing program that was
expanded with $57 million in ARRA funding. This program provides weatherization
services to Arizonans
based on income and has
an established local
service delivery network comprised of non-profit or governmental
organizations that provides services in all geographic areas of Arizona.
The State Energy Program
(SEP) is an existing program that was expanded with $55.4 million in ARRA
funding. The program is divided into six areas of funding and will advance energy efficiency and
renewable energy projects in Arizona.
The Energy Efficiency and
Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG) was funded for the first time by
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. It will help Arizona cities
and towns reduce total energy use, fossil fuel emissions and improve energy
efficiency in EECBG projects. Arizona was awarded $9,593,500 to fund projects
for local governments with a population of 35,000 or less (according to 2007
Census).
